Ik heb vanaf mijn jeugd altijd al honden gehad, verschillende rassen in verschillende groottes. Na ergens 15 à 20 jaar zonder hond geweest te zijn begon het toch terug serieus te kriebelen. Van mijn laatste maat had ik zoveel hartpijn gehad dat ik geen hond meer in huis wilde halen… Maar de laatste 3 jaar begon het idee te groeien om terug een hond in huis te nemen, maar welk ras, hoe groot of hoe klein, kort haar, lang haar, of ruwharig. Ik ging al een hele tijd op bezoek bij verschillende hondenscholen om te kijken hoe het daaraan toeging en om een hondenschool te kiezen die mij beviel en de verschillende rassen bezig te zien. Zocht van alles op over honden, las verschillende boeken, keek goed rond op die verschillende hondenscholen. Mijn oog viel op de Schnauzer, meer bepaald de ‘Middenslag Schnauzer’. Niet te groot of te klein om mee in huis te leven. Liefst de kleur Peper & Zout. Aardig karakter, hoewel soms eigenzinnig en extra pit, maar ergens heb ik dat wel graag. Enfin dit jaar werd de knoop doorgehakt, we zouden er eentje in huis halen. Op internet gezocht naar serieuze fokkers van dit ras met stamboom en paspoort. Kon niet direct een fokker vinden, of waar er nog beschikbare pups zouden zijn. Kwam ik uit op de pagina van de ‘Nederlandse Schnauzer Club’ en vond daar een link naar ‘de Schnauzerkennel v.d. Oldert’.Mailtje gestuurd of er eventueel een kennelbezoek kon plaatsvinden en ja hoor, er waren zelfs pups geboren en beschikbaar. Direct een telefoontje gepleegd en afspraak gemaakt voor het weekend. Dit bezoek viel heel goed mee, vriendelijke mensen, mooie sociale honden en het nestje was geboren: 9 pups…! Mijn voorkeur is altijd uitgegaan naar een reu, dus het zou een reu worden. Heb direct het voorschot betaald en een reutje vastgelegd, nest bestond uit 5 reutjes en 4 teefjes. De naam zou moeten beginnen met een G. Geen probleem er sprong direct een naam in mijn hoofd: G.P., dit uitspreken in het Engels en je krijgt: ZjiePie. G.P. komt van het Frans ‘Grande puissance’ wat ‘Grote kracht’ betekend of zoals je wilt ‘High power’. Pups waren net een week oud, dus een afspraak gemaakt om een maand later een pup te gaan uitkiezen. Wat duurde die maand lang… 😊.Eindelijk konden we terug richting Milheeze om onze pup te gaan uitkiezen. Paar testjes gedaan en onze keuze werd gemaakt en genoteerd.
Nog een aangename babbel bij een tasje koffie of thee en terug richting België, wachten tot G.P. oud genoeg was om te gaan ophalen, ook deze tijd duurde lang. Het was zover, we gingen onze G.P. ophalen! Zonder problemen de lange rit huiswaarts gemaakt, G.P. gaf geen kik en bleef rustig liggen, werd ook niet wagenziek. Thuisgekomen direct een plasje gemaakt op een op voorhand voorziene plaats. In huis getoond waar zijn bench, eten en drinken stond en toen kon hij alles gaan verkennen. Wat een hoop nieuwe dingen en geuren…enthousiast ging hij op ontdekking door het huis en grote tuin. In de tuin toonde ik de plaats waar hij zijn behoefte mocht doen en dat is nu zijn vaste plaats, was snel in orde. Zijn bench kende hij ook zeer snel en trok er zich op tijd in terug om te rusten en heerlijk te slapen. ’s Nachts piepte of jankte hij niet, reuze meevaller. ’s Morgens sta ik wel vroeg op: 05:15 uur om hem direct buiten te laten voor zijn plasje en zijn kakje zodat er niks in huis gebeurt. Twee keer mistte ik het signaal dat hij naar buiten wilde en dus plaste hij in huis, mijn eigen fout. Nu lees ik de signalen beter en gebeurt het niet meer, hij komt aangeven dat hij buiten wil en gaat direct naar de daartoe aangegeven plaats. ‘Zit Voor’ en ‘Af, Voet en Volgen’ lukken al aardig, aan de Lijn volgen gaat al heel goed 😊.
’s Morgens rond 06:00 uur vertrekken we voor een aangepaste wandeling op maat van de pup, hij geniet er enorm van. Op bepaalde plaatsen kan hij los rondlopen en snuffelt dan wat af… wat is alles toch zo interessant!
‘Middags als het niet te warm is doen we nog een rondje en ’s avonds lopen we nog een klein hoekje om. Hij vindt het allemaal fantastisch. Een Dierenarts heb ik ook al voorzien evenals een Trimsalon en Hondenschool, Voedingszaak voor honden en katten is vlak in de buurt – alles binnen de 10 minuten rijden van huis – na zijn laatste inenting kunnen we van start.
Ik krijg de vraag: ‘Waarom een Schnauzer?’
Wel, het zijn mooie robuuste honden met een aardig karakter, ze zijn gezond van gestel, kunnen goed opschieten met kinderen – wij hebben 2 kleinkinderen, erg belangrijk dus – ze zijn niet te groot of te klein (Middenslag). Ze hebben graag beweging, dus als hij groot en sterk genoeg is kan hij mee op mijn dagelijkse wandelingen hier door het bos. Als je ze op tijd laat trimmen vind je weinig of geen haren in huis en tevens zien ze er dan altijd op hun best uit.
Enfin G.P. is nu al 3 weken thuis en heeft zich aardig genesteld, kent zijn plek in huis en de tuin heeft geen geheimen meer.
In huis is hij de rust zelve en in de tuin heel actief, is erg graag buiten…
Nog even en we kunnen naar de hondenschool, kijk ik ook naar uit. Om alles aan te leren, te socialiseren met de andere honden en mensen, enz. …
