Réfa is 4 mei 5 jaar geworden. Het gaat hard. Maar dat ze nu de leeftijd van 5 jaar heeft bereikt heeft ook zijn voordelen. Ze snapt alles. Weet precies wat ik bedoel. Ik heb leuke honden gehad in mijn leven tot nu toe. Maar Réfa is een uitzondering. Ze luistert altijd. Is waaks. En geweldig lief. Ze geeft nooit problemen met andere honden. En heeft haar eigen manier van doen. Ze heeft een honden persoonlijkheid en charme waar ik van geniet en afblijf. Ik zorg dat ze haar eigen zelf kan blijven. Toen ze als pup bij ons kwam, ben ik begonnen met korte commando’s. Stop. Zit. Naast. Nee. Tot ik merkte dat ze alles door had. Ik merkte haar concentratie en de wil om te luisteren. Ze schrok van zichzelf toen ze voor de eerste keer blafte omdat er iemand aan de deur kwam. Ik schrok ook. Ik had het nog niet meegemaakt dat er een van mijn honden waakzaam was. Nog steeds is ze zeer waakzaam. Voor dat ze bij ons kwam had ik met Jan afgesproken; niet op de bank, niet bedelen, niks toestoppen en niet op bed. Grenzen zijn er om verlegd te worden. Dus ze ligt uitgestrekt op de bank. Krijgt wat toegestopt. En ligt graag op bed. Ze is niet te weerstaan. Reef heeft haar ritme gevonden in de dag en wij passen ons aan. ‘S morgens rond een uur of half zeven, zeven uur word ik meestal wakker. Ik stap uit mijn bed en laat Réfa plassen aan de zijkant van ons huis, waar wij een stukje tuin hebben waar we niks mee doen. Ze scharrelt even rond en doet een plas.
Per de poes komt er gezellig bij, die slaapt meestal in het tuinhuis. Waar haar mand staat en een ronde opening in de deur er voor zorgt dat ze naar binnen en naar buiten kan. Per is bij ons geboren 15 jaar geleden, we hebben met haar gespeeld en geknuffeld maar toch blijft ze heel erg schuw en voorzichtig. Ze was erg bang toen we met Reef thuis kwamen. Per heeft zich dagen niet laten zien. Réfa heeft ervoor gezorgd dat ze weer vertrouwen kreeg in de nieuwe situatie door haar met rust te laten. Per mocht aan haar snuffelen. Nu zijn ze dikke vriendinnen. Als Per binnen slaapt is het even anders. Dat gebeurt vaker in de winter. Gisteren heb ik eens goed op Réfa gelet, haar manier van doen eens onder de loep genomen en dat is leuk. Na het plassen ‘s morgens samen met Per naar binnen. Per krijgt haar brokjes en Réfa krijgt ook een paar brokjes in haar bak. Samen staan ze te eten. Omdat het nog vroeg is ga ik meestal nog even terug naar bed. Zo maar, een half uurtje. Lekker geen wekker. De tijd is voorbij van zes uur opstaan. Rond kwart over tien, half elf laat Réfa duidelijk merken dat het haar tijd is om naar het bos te gaan. Grote wandeling. Rond 1 uur is het tijd voor haar boterham met leverpastei. Die gewoonte heb ik meegenomen van de familie van Ansem, kennel van de Oldert waar Réfa geboren is. Ze vind het nog steeds lekker. Ik blijf verbaasd over de structuur die Réfa in haar dag heeft. Ze weet precies hoe laat het is. ‘ s middags maken we een puzzel of gaan lopen. ‘S avonds rond zeven uur is het weer tijd voor het bos. 20.00 uur haar puzzel die ze zelf kan doen. Rond half elf ga ik naar bed en Jan komt rond die tijd thuis van het verzorgen van zijn paard. Reef ligt bij mij, kijkt Jan aan als die de slaapkamer in komt en samen gaan ze naar de kamer. Jan pakt een stukje kaas en samen wordt dat opgegeten. Als Jan naar bed komt gaat Réfa in haar eigen mand in de kamer. De dag zit er weer op. Vanochtend om kwart voor zes sprong Per bovenop het dekbed. Luid spinnend. Ze had binnen geslapen en vond het tijd voor haar brokjes. Ik nog niet. Maar er was geen ontsnappen aan. Toen ze voor de vierde keer boven op me sprong deed Reef gezellig mee. 5.44 uur. Ik ben uit bed gestapt voor het dagelijkse ritueel. Plassen, brokjes, Per naar buiten, ik nog even terug. Nu was het toch wel erg vroeg. Niks goede oude tijd. 8 uur is ook prima. 6.18 uur. Jan ligt naast mij, diep in slaap. Hij maakt zacht puf geluidjes. Réfa is bij mij op bed komen liggen en legt haar kopje boven op mijn buik. 6.30 uur. Ik maak een kruisteken.
